Rubbish Collection Hammersmith Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Rubbish Collection Hammersmith in relation to the financial year ending 31 March. It explains the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains, and reaffirms our commitment to conducting business ethically, transparently and responsibly.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Rubbish Collection Hammersmith provides waste collection, rubbish removal and related environmental services to residential, commercial and public sector clients. Our operations are primarily based in the United Kingdom, but we work with a range of suppliers and contractors who may source products, equipment and services from both the UK and overseas.
Our supply chain includes providers of vehicles, fuel, personal protective equipment, uniforms, tools, information technology, facilities management and labour services. We recognise that some of these sectors can be at higher risk of labour exploitation, and we are committed to understanding and managing these risks proactively.
Zero-Tolerance Approach to Modern Slavery
We have a clear zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and exploitation. This applies to our own operations, our employees, agency workers, contractors and everyone within our supply chain.
We expect all individuals and organisations we work with to share this commitment, comply with all applicable legislation and uphold high standards of human rights, labour practices and workplace conditions. Any breach of this policy is treated as a serious matter and may result in termination of contracts or working relationships, and, where appropriate, reporting to relevant authorities.
Supplier Standards and Audits
We require our key suppliers and contractors to confirm that they do not engage in, or support, modern slavery or human trafficking, and that they have their own procedures in place to identify and address these risks. When entering into new contracts or renewing existing ones, we assess suppliers against ethical and labour standards alongside quality, cost and service criteria.
We conduct risk-based supplier audits, prioritising suppliers operating in sectors or regions with higher levels of vulnerability. These audits may involve reviewing employment practices, checking documentation, inspecting facilities and interviewing relevant personnel. Where issues or areas for improvement are identified, we work with suppliers to establish corrective action plans and monitor their implementation.
Policies, Training and Awareness
Our internal policies support our zero-tolerance stance on modern slavery. These include policies on ethical conduct, recruitment, whistleblowing, health and safety, and equality and diversity. All employees are expected to comply with these policies as a condition of their employment.
We provide training and guidance for managers and relevant staff so they can recognise warning signs of exploitation, understand our procedures and know how to respond to concerns. Awareness is reinforced through ongoing communication and updates as our practices evolve.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Rubbish Collection Hammersmith encourages employees, workers, suppliers and other stakeholders to report any suspicions or concerns about modern slavery, human trafficking or unethical labour practices. Concerns can be raised with line managers, senior management or via our confidential whistleblowing channel.
All reports are taken seriously, investigated promptly and handled sensitively. We ensure that individuals who raise concerns in good faith are protected from victimisation or retaliation. Where evidence of modern slavery is found, we will act immediately to safeguard affected individuals, work with relevant authorities and take appropriate action against those responsible.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that tackling modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility. We are committed to continually improving our systems, controls and understanding of the risks in our business and supply chains. This includes refining our due diligence processes, strengthening supplier engagement and enhancing staff training.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least once a year by senior management to ensure it remains accurate, effective and aligned with legal requirements and best practice. The outcomes of this review inform our future objectives and actions, helping us to reduce the risk of modern slavery and contribute positively to the communities in which we operate.
